Dr. Ross's Expert Review
A multivitamin sets the stage for health management. I use Physician’s Daily as the base layer for people who need broad nutrient coverage while we work on the harder problems underneath. It is not glamorous. It matters.
What I like here is the form of the nutrients. B12 comes as methylcobalamin and folate as the active methylated form, which matters for the many patients whose methylation is sluggish. B6 is pyridoxal-5-phosphate, the active form. Vitamin D3 sits at 2000 IU, a dose that often means one less supplement bottle on the shelf. CoQ10, alpha lipoic acid, and lutein round it out. And it is iron-free, which I prefer unless testing shows someone needs iron.
For the most part, the best way to get key nutrients is through eating a healthy plant forward diet. And for vitamin B12, occasional red meat is helpful. Whole foods beat pills for most nutrients. But my patients often cannot eat perfectly every day, and chronic illness raises nutrient demands. A well-built multivitamin fills the void efficiently.
It is one capsule a day with food. Sixty capsules, two months per bottle. If stomach upset shows up, take it with a bigger meal.
I do not use it to replace targeted support. If vitamin D, B12, or minerals test low, we fix those specifically. The multivitamin is the foundation of support.
How I Use It in My Practice
This is a foundation supplement in my practice. One capsule daily with a meal, plain and simple. I check what else a person takes so we do not double up on D3 or zinc, since broad formulas overlap with single nutrients. It is iron-free, so I add iron separately only when testing supports it. Pregnant or nursing patients should review this supplement with their physician first. For anyone rebuilding the basic support during chronic illness, I give it two to three months before judging whether this foundational supplement is doing its job.
The Research, in Dr. Ross's Words
The multivitamin literature is mixed about benefits. The strongest signals here come from trials in older adults. In the COSMOS randomized trial, daily multivitamin use improved memory performance over a year, and bloodwork confirmed folate, B12, and vitamin D rose. A 2021 trial in older adults on multiple medications found a multivitamin and mineral product improved B12, C, folate, magnesium, and zinc status. A 2020 trial showed vitamin C and zinc rose with supplementation, with immune measures trending in the right direction. These trials studied multivitamins generally, not this specific formula
A 2024 multicenter trial showed a vitamin D and B12 combination restored deficient levels, which supports the doses chosen in this formula. A 2024 narrative review on supplements and cognition in aging is cautiously positive, noting benefits that are real but modest.
My read: multivitamins reliably correct nutrient shortfalls. The cognitive and immune findings are encouraging but modest, and none of these trials studied chronically ill patients specifically.
