Dr. Ross's Expert Review
Most probiotics force a choice: spore-forming strains that survive stomach acid and the environment but do not colonize, or traditional live strains that need careful handling. Multi-Biome from Researched Nutritionals takes the both route, six strains in one delayed-release capsule, no refrigeration required.
The label reads like a deliberate pairing. Bacillus subtilis DE111 and two Bacillus coagulans strains cover the spore side. Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Bifidobacterium lactis Bi-07, and Lactobacillus salivarius Ls-33 cover the live side, and GG and Bi-07 were chosen with histamine management in mind, which matters for the sensitive patients I see.
I use Multi-Biome as the probiotic layer in gut repair and maintenance plans, and especially during and after antibiotic courses. The spore strains pass stomach acid without much fuss. The delayed-release capsule is not marketing noise either: it is what gets the live strains past the stomach intact.
Practical notes: one capsule a day, with or without food, no refrigeration. It contains coconut-derived ingredients, so tree nut allergy is a real flag. It is manufactured without milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, peanuts, wheat, soy, and gluten, but shares a facility with them.
The evidence picture is strain specific, as it always is with probiotics. GG carries meta-analysis-level support for preventing antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The MTCC 5856 coagulans strain has a double-blind IBS trial. DE111 has been shown to germinate in the human small intestine, which is exactly what a spore probiotic is supposed to do. No trial tests this six-strain blend as a whole. What sells me on this product is the strain selection: each one is genomically sequenced, registered, and chosen for its science-based effects.
How I Use It in My Practice
I use Multi-Biome as the daily probiotic in gut repair plans and during or after antibiotic courses, one capsule a day with or without food. Because it needs no refrigeration, it is also the one I hand people who travel or who will not reliably keep a bottle cold. Discuss with your physician how long to use this product during and after antibiotics or as part of general intestinal health maintenance based on your particular regimen or health status.
The Research, in Dr. Ross's Words
The evidence is strain-level rather than blend-level. Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG has meta-analysis support for reducing antibiotic-associated diarrhea in children and adults. Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856 improved symptoms and quality of life in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled pilot in diarrhea-predominant IBS. Bacillus subtilis DE111 was shown to be present and to germinate in the human small intestinal tract in a randomized, crossover, double-blind trial, and a three-arm trial found single-strain Bifidobacterium lactis and B. coagulans formulations well tolerated in IBS patients.
No published trial tests this exact six-strain combination or the delayed-release capsule against other probiotics in a chronic illness population. The individual strains carry human data, while the blend in this product has not been researched together.
