Dr. Ross's Expert Review
Binders are a core tool in my practice, and bentonite clay is one of the oldest and simplest. Medi-Clay-FX by Premier Research Labs is clean calcium bentonite clay with nothing else in the capsule. The clay comes from the site of an ancient underwater volcanic eruption that was flushed with fresh water for millions of years, which is about as clean a source as clay gets.
Clay is a binder for substances in the gut. For people whose plans include a binder, clay is one option to discuss with a physician, and it supports a clean, well-functioning digestive system along the way.
The research on clay binders in chronic illness is thin, and most of what guides me is binding chemistry, theory, and observation in my practice. The toxin binding mechanism is sound and the tolerability in my experience is good.
Practical points from the label: take it with at least four ounces of water, keep it in a cool dry place. Anyone with a history of hypersensitivity to the ingredients should not use it. Review the suggested bottle directions with your physician.
How I Use It in My Practice
In my practice I use Medi-Clay-FX as an ongoing support binder during mold and toxin work. I start my patients at lower doses than recommended on the product label. I suggest 1 pill daily, moving to 2 pills 1 time a day as tolerated. (If you use it differently than the label directions, discuss it with your physician first. ) The label direction is two capsules three times daily with at least four ounces of water, and I keep people well hydrated while on it. To prevent binding medications or supplements I suggest stopping all meds or supplements 30 min before taking this product and then resuming medicines or supplements 2 hours later. An ideal time to eat a small amount of food is 30 min after taking this to stimulate gall bladder contraction when the binder reaches the small intestines.
The Research, in Dr. Ross's Words
Calcium bentonite and montmorillonite clays have a long binding record. Animal and lab studies show these clays bind aflatoxins, a recent narrative review collects the clinical orientation of calcium montmorillonite, and lab work shows montmorillonite adsorbs glyphosate. There are no trials of this specific clay product in chronic illness regimens, so my use rests on binding science and clinical experience.
