Marty Ross MD on MTHFR & Lyme
In this video article, Marty Ross MD discusses MTHFR detoxification genetic defect in Lyme disease. Watch the video to learn:
- what the MTHFR genetic defect is,
- how MTHFR defect can interfere with detoxification,
- why it is not always necessary to correct for this defect,
- how the gut microbiome can fix this problem even if you have a genetic defect,
- when to take supplements to correct this problem.
After you watch the video, see how to support MTHFR in the section located below the video.
Support for MTHFR Defect
If a person has an MTHFR DNA mutation, also called a SNP, and an elevated blood homocysteine level, consider supports for MTHFR defect using 5-MTHF and methylcobalamin combination. Once on a full dose of this add 5-MTHF.
- 5-MTHF 400 mcg and Methylcobalamin 400 mcg 1-3 pills 1 time a day. Start at 1 pill and increase every 7 days as tolerated up to 3 pills. Go slowly because opening up blocked detoxification with this supplement could cause more fatigue, body pain, and cognitive dysfunction.
- 5-MTHF 1 mg or 5-MTHF 5 mg 1 pill daily. Add the 1 mg dose after you are stable on the 5 MTHF/Methylcobalamin combination above. Only add the 5mg dose if advised by your physician.
