Accessibility Statement

Effective Date: November 5, 2026     |     Last Updated: November 5, 2026

This accessibility statement applies to https://treatlyme.com/ and is issued by TreatLyme.

TreatLyme wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people with disabilities. We are working to the following standards:

  • The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title III
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA

Accessibility is not only a compliance exercise for us. It is about making sure people living with Lyme disease, tick-borne illnesses, or mold toxicity can find, read, and act on health information clearly and independently.

Compliance Status

This website currently partially complies with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially complies” means that some parts of the website do not yet fully meet the standard. The known issues are listed below under Known Limitations so that you know what to expect and how to get help.

Measures We Have Taken

TreatLyme has recently been through a rebrand and relaunch, with a new design and updated content across the website. The new site has been checked with automated accessibility scanning tools, and we are working through the issues that have been found. Automated tools can only catch some accessibility problems, so once the rebrand and relaunch have settled, we will commission a full manual accessibility audit of the site. We will update this statement when that audit is complete.

Known Limitations

Some parts of the website are not yet fully accessible. We know about the following issues, and we are working to address them:

Images and Icons

  • Inaccurate image descriptions on icons: Some small icons carry descriptions that do not match what they are or what they do. For example, arrow icons are described to screen readers as “Abstract gray shape with a small black dot,” and send icons as “Black and white vertical stripe with soft gradient.” Screen reader users may hear confusing descriptions that add nothing to the page.
    • WCAG 2.1: 1.1.1 Non-text Content

Navigation and Menus

  • Menu buttons announced with internal names: The “Start Here,” “Treatment Guides” and “Supplements” menu buttons are announced to screen readers as “start-here,” “treatment-guides,” and “supplements,” which does not match the visible text exactly. People who use voice control may find these menus harder to open by saying the name they can see.
    • What you can do now: The Treatment Guides, Q&A Webinars, and Supplements sections are also linked from the footer of every page.
    • WCAG 2.1: 2.5.3 Label in Name, 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value
  • Menus cannot be closed with the Escape key: Once a drop-down menu is open, pressing Escape does not close it. The open menu can cover the content underneath.
    • WCAG 2.1: 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus
  • Heading structure: The homepage contains a second, hidden main heading, and some headings inside the menus come before the main page heading. On the Products page, the filter titles (“Product Filters,” “Health Topics,” and “Brand”) look like headings but are not marked up as headings, so screen reader users cannot jump to them.
    • WCAG 2.1: 1.3.1 Info and Relationships

Product Filters

  • Filter results are not announced: When you choose a filter on the Products and Supplements page, the product list updates without reloading the page. Screen readers are not told that the results have changed or how many products are now showing, and keyboard focus moves back to the top of the page, so you have to tab back to where you were.
    • What you can do now: The number of results is shown in text above the product list (for example, “Showing 92 results”), which you can reach by moving through the page.
    • WCAG 2.1: 4.1.3 Status Messages, 2.4.3 Focus Order
  • Sort menu label: The product sort menu (“Default sorting”) is announced to screen readers as “wpc-orderby-select” rather than a clear name such as “Sort products.”
    • WCAG 2.1: 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value
  • Repeated “Learn More” and “Buy on Femologist” links: Each product on the listing page has “Learn More” and “Buy on Femologist” links that do not say which product they are for. When links are listed together by a screen reader, they all sound the same.
    • What you can do now: The product name and price appear just before these links, so reading the product card in order gives the context.
    • WCAG 2.1: Best practice, 2.4.9 Link Purpose (Link Only), Level AAA

Forms

  • Search has no visible label: The search field relies on placeholder text (“Search term”), which disappears as soon as you start typing. It does have a hidden label for screen readers.
    • WCAG 2.1: 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions
  • Contact form autofill and instructions: On the Contact Us page, the Subject field is set up as a name field, so your browser may fill your name into it automatically. The character counter on the message field (“0 / 180”) is not announced to screen readers as you type.
    • What you can do now: Please check the Subject field before you send your message.
    • WCAG 2.1: 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose

Documents and Content Not Yet Reviewed

  • Downloadable PDFs: PDF documents, including the “PDF Book of This Page” and “Table of Key Supplements” downloads on treatment guides and the yeast screening questionnaire, have not yet been reviewed and may not work well with assistive technology.
    • What you can do now: The treatment guides are also available as web pages, which are easier to use with assistive technology. If you need a PDF in another format, contact us using the details below.
    • WCAG 2.1: Not yet assessed
  • Older guides and updates: Older treatment guides and posts in our Latest Updates section have not yet been individually reviewed.
